Atlanta, GA // June 2011

Took a weekend drive to Atlanta recently with the boy and a couple of friends. My friend had to take a GACE test and so we decided afterwards to try to make it to downtown ATL to the Cheesecake Factory afterwards. Mistake. We were way underdressed for the one we went to (I had no idea the Cheesecake Factory in downtown Atlanta had valet parking?!) and so we decided to find a place to park and walk around a bit. We didn't get to do that, either, because shortly after that decision it came a storm. We headed back home. I didn't get many photos with my digital camera (it was mostly film), but here are the few that I did get:

Moral of the story? 1) I really need to go to Atlanta more often and 2) I hate sitting in a car for two hours. Oh, and 3) I really need to bring my camera more often.

film

Even though I'm so impatient that I prefer to use my digital camera in more situations, my heart still beats for film.
I don't have a lot of photos that I took when I was a little girl because unfortunately I didn't truly appreciate the art and emotion for photography until much later in life, but I always loved having a camera with me. Seeing a different world behind a piece of glass or plastic, the snap, the waiting to see what kind of magic lands in your hand. It was there. It was small...but it was there.

A couple of Christmases ago, my boyfriend bought me a pretty little Pentax Spotmatic at a local antique shop, and last year I found a FANTASTIC deal on amazon for a Canon AE-1. AND I bought a Canon Rebel K2 from a coworker as well. I luckily found some rolls of film (both expired and new) and started snapping, hoping that I can, through trial and error, figure out the manual settings on a camera I can't see photos of until later! :)

I finally found the time and money to drop off a few rolls of film to be developed. Here are a few of my favorites:

Bethany & Daniel - May 14, 2011

I haven't done many weddings...about five or six, actually (you can view one of them here). In fact, photographing weddings terrify me for that reason alone. What if they hate their photos? What if something happens to the camera/photos/my hard drive? So, while I'm happy that folks are willing to put their faith in me, I'm seriously in a glass case of emotion until the couple have the photos in their hands and they're happy with the result. There. I said it. I confessed.

A couple of weekends ago, I had the privilege of shooting Bethany and Daniel's wedding. I also shot their engagement photos (which you can view some of them on my facebook page). I loved how laid-back and easy they are to work with - it definitely made it easy on my nerves! :) Here are just a few of the shots I took that day:

This one made me laugh!

Congrats you two!

otherlings

it's no secret that I often live in my own little world. I'm always coming up with stories and characters in my head. it's okay...it keeps me young, right? sometimes, though, my characters and worlds seep out into the real world. and that is where the real fun begins. so another on-going project I'm doing called otherlings is one where I can share some of these made up things. I only started playing around with the idea about the same time as I did more than words, so I don't have many photos. my hope is to do more in the near future...and if I do,  you'll be the first to know :)
